The 4400 is a science fiction television show on the USA Network. It follows a group of 4400 people who all had disappeared at different times, starting in 1946. It is originally believed that they were sent back to Earth through a comet. None of the 4400 have grown any older or remember anything about what happened to them when they were gone. They are very confused as to what has happened to them. A government agency, The National Threat Assessment Command, is given the task of dealing with the 4400 returnees. Two of the agents belonging to the Assessment command, Tom Baldwin and Diana Skouris, are lead characters in the show. Many of the 4400 have a lot of difficulty adapting to their lives. A number of them discover that they have various paranormal powers. One of the returnees is pregnant when she returns from her disappearance. Season one ends with the discovery that the 4400 were taken by people who live on Earth in the future and that they were sent back to avoid some crisis.
In season two, the government finds the presence of a neurotransmitter called promicin in the brain's of the returnees. The government gives most of the returnees a promine inhibitor; the ones that do not get the drug to are the ones who have special powers.
